Traditionally goulash is made with beef or veal, rich enough to be eaten as a main course.
- Beef Chuck Or Shank - 400 g (0.9 lbs)
- Onion - medium
- Garlic - 1 clove
- Sweet Pepper - 1
- Tomato - 1
- Oil - 2 tbsp
- Paprika - 1 tsp
- Carrot And Turnip - 250 g (0.6 lbs)
- Salt - to taste
- Potato - 300 g (0.7 lbs)
- Cumin - ½ tsp
- Water - 1 l (33.8 oz)
Peel potatoes and dice into ½ inch cubes. Cut the meat into ½ inch cubes, too. Chop all the vegetables into ½ inch pieces.
Sauté the onions until translucent. Take the pan off the heat and add the beef and paprika. Stir well and cook at a high heat for a few minutes.
Add pepper, tomato, a pinch of salt, water, and cover the pan.
Simmer for about 1 hour and add carrot, turnip, cumin and crushed garlic.
Simmer for about 30 minutes until the beef is starting to get tender, and add the potatoes. Cook for another 30 minutes.
