Delicious homemade dessert, in which stale bread can be used.
- Sliced Bread - 1000 g (2.2 lbs)
- Milk - 1 l (33.8 oz)
- Vanillin Sugar - 1 packet
- Sugar - 4 tbs
- Apple - 4
- Butter - 1 tbs
- Ground Cinnamon - 1 tsp
- Ground Walnut - 100 g (0.2 lbs)
- Sugar - 3.5 tbs (for the walnut)
- Grated Lemon Peel - 1 tbs
- Egg White - 4
- Sugar - 8 tbs (for the egg white)
Preheat the oven to 200°C/390°F.
Cut the bread into 1.5 inch X 1.5 inch cubes and put into a bowl.
Mix the walnut with 50 g sugar and grated lemon peel.
Add 4 tbs sugar and 1 packet vanillin sugar to the milk, and bring it to a boil.
Peel and thinly slice the apples. Melt the butter in a pot, and add the apples and cinnamon. Sprinkle it for a few minutes.
Soak the bread pieces in milk, and combine with the walnut-sugar-lemon mixture. Lay half of the new bread mixture into a skillet, then spread with the apple mixture. Top with the remaining bread mixture and put it into a preheated oven. Bake for 15 minutes.
Whisk the egg yolks with the sugar. Remove the skillet from the oven and spread the top with the whipped egg whites. Put it back in the oven and bake until the top is light golden brown.
Let it cool down and chop into cubes.
